21 Mar She Roared….She Relentlessly Roared
Alicia was born to make the world a better place in fearless ways. Since her early adolescence she had a penchant for office supplies. While most kids were squirreling away candy, Alicia was stock-piling labels, post-it notes and highlighters for a life she could have never seen coming. A life of leadership, love and unthinkable loss.
In the world of commercial real estate, Alicia commanded the respect of those who stood in the most powerful positions. Her level of competency, attention to detail and follow-thru was unrivalled. What she expected from herself, she also demanded from others. Alicia was like a proverbial B12 shot. She had a remarkable ability to bring out the very best version of everyone around her. Alicia was multidimensional. She was the curator of joy, hope and purpose. A courageous leader, yes, but also a deep ocean of compassion that sparkled like her blue eyes. Her internal radar never missed an intuitive nudge guiding her to someone in need. Whether it was to share a kind word, a dozen of her heavenly handmade scones, or confirmation that we are all perfectly imperfect….Alicia was there.
She was the playlist to the love songs in her husband Andy’s heart. Their love story was divinity manifested into reality. They were whole on their own and complete together. Alicia and Andy were two souls from different continents magnetized to unite. Their love had many beautiful faces, one of them being medicine to each other.
In 2007, Alicia our energizer bunny, was feeling ongoing fatigue and malaise. A trip to the doctors and some testing was in order. The results ejected her world completely out of order. Blood cancer. The next 12 years of her life were a barrage of bone marrow transplants, remissions, procedures and praying. So much praying. Throughout the revolving dance from darkness to light and back again, she roared towards survival. One of the many ways she faced off with her fate was by joining Team in Training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Next thing you know, this relatively lifetime non-athlete was completing half-marathons, then full marathons, triathlons and fundraising-athons. “Mission Possible” was their name ~ demanding a cure was no game. Alicia was an altruistic treasure on this planet. Her way of loving was as pervasive as dew on a gentle morning. It covers everything giving life with each pure touch and asking nothing in return.
We lost Alicia on Feb. 19, 2019 at 54 years young. Her energy lives on in the hearts of all those she left her handprint on. Her roar, well her roar will echo forever as we pay forward Alicia’s legacy of relentless pursuit of a cure.
